"Autumn on Federal Street" 5x7 Sold!
"Downtown Nantucket" 5x7 Oil on Copper This painting was donated to Century House in Nantucket for their artist in residence program. I am happy to have been a part of this program!
I ate lots of wonderful oatmeal topped with fresh blueberries this morning! John Caggiano and I headed down to Federal Street in Nantucket again today. There are many people touring all of the fine shops lining this street. I didn't go into any of these shops. I did buy a 10$ toothbrush and toothpaste a few days ago. I may paint this toothbrush and call it the Nantucket toothbrush! No, not really. I painted a street scene all day. I worked from 9:00 am till 4:00 pm on this 5x7 street scene! There was a lady selling pumpkins, mums, and veggies on my left. This gave the scene a real Autumn feel. Then the doors of the shops, signs, and buildings were on the right. There are bricks lining the sidewalks. There are cobblestones lining the streets down on Federal Street. There is a wonderful feeling about this street. Anticipation seems to be a common feeling among the people here! Maybe this is why John likes to paint on this street. My paintings are turning out good so far.
I sold the painting I was working on today to an interior decorator. She loved my brouchure I design recently. I think my brouchure really helps increase my respectablity as I am painting on the street. There are pictures of my gallery and dogs and work. This helps! She wanted my painting for herself as a remembrance of her Nantucket trip. But later she said she may sell it! She didn't know yet. I will take the painting home, let it dry, put the galkyd on, frame it, and ship it too her! It is a nice painting!
I painted a nightscene on the opposite side of the street. I met a man who was interested in having my work in a new gallery he owned on Federal Street. He also wanted to buy the painting I did today. I told him I would paint another street scene and maybe he may like that one too. I might show him the nightscene I did later in the evening. I think his store is in it!
John was working on the lady selling the veggies today again. It looks great!
There was another artist this morning arriving with his wife at the Century House. His name is Mat Cornell from Orlando, Florida. He had a huge painting he worked a month on. The painting was of a ocean scene. It was very well done and realistic. He said he only paints five paintings a year. He was bringing it over to a gallery on Federal Street. What a nice couple they were!
I am headed down to eat another amazing breakfast! Then I am out the door to paint all day and night! Daisy and Duke are enjoying ice cream each night! Robert says they are very happy about this. Daisy and Duke wanted to say thank you for their treats! Woof!

I woke up early 7:00 am after the best sleep I have had in years. I went downstairs to have the famous breakfast at the Century House. It was simply amazing. I ate a little of everything. I made a plain yogurt with a bunch of fresh blueberries, blackberries, and granola. Then I had a bowl of cut up citrus. Even the citrus's skins were removed. I had an english muffin toasted with cream cheese and strawberry preserves. I do know the better I eat, the better I paint. I had a hot tea. I can't seem to drink coffee anymore. The last time I drank a coffee, I was painting with Stapleton Kearns up on the Acadia National Park cliffs. I started to rock climb. I came back down to paint. Stape said, "You were scaring me a little." I decided to not drink coffee after that.
Around 9:00 am John Caggiano awoke from his slumber. I am not sure where exactly in the hotel is his room. All of the rooms here are very nice. They have a clean cottage by the sea feel. I have the AC running! It is nice and warm here. Even humid! I am loving this. It was cold in Maine. Jean the lady who runs Century Hotel is very nice and fun! Her husband is also very nice! They love art and artists.
The baby jogger carried my painting equipment and John's. I push the cart to the location in the middle of town. He pushed it back to the hotel. Even John commented how well Schwinn's baby jogger carries art equipment. I think he may even purchase one! We painted down by the shops from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. I sold two paintings to a lady and son. He was so impressed with 20 paintings I brought from home that he was speechless. He said finally I love them all! But unfortunately the lady didn't return with her cash. So I guess she got held up. It was exciting. John said I was very good at handling sales. He had a man come up to see how much his painting was. But he didn't want to pay that much. He didn't want to pay my prices either. He probably could just afford a print for a few bucks. Or maybe he just was curious what our prices were.
Here are a few photos of Federal Street.

I painted two paintings before 5:00 pm. I was wiped out. We went to eat at a sushi place. I use to love sushi. I took a few photos of my sushi to paint later. The sushi man was amazed at John and I taking photos of our sushi. We told him we were artists and were going to paint our food. I told John I was going to make a 1000$ off my sushi. Maybe I will. I know I would like to own a sushi oil painting!
After sushi, we went to paint at night! We both ended up with great night street scenes. A rolex dealer fixed my date on my watch. We met a local artist Elliot. He was really nice. Many people came out to comment about us painting all day and night. A few people wanted to know why we were doing this? Funny reaction to hard working artists! Most people were very enthusiastic and impressed with our night paintings! I will post photos of all of these paintings soon! I am getting out there and painting! I hope you are too. The world is too beautiful of a place to not really enjoy it! I really do think the only way to understand the landscape is to get outside to paint it!

Yesterday I woke up at 4:00 am to drive to Cape Cod! I arrived at the Steamship Ferry at 12:00 pm. I paid my 30$ for the ferry and parked my car nearby. They took my luggage and put it on the ferry. It was a really nice ferry. I will post photos later. Nantucket is very different from Monhegan Island. There are many more houses. They have spent much time and money on the landscaping and street lanterns. There are cobblestone streets in the middle of the town lined with shops. John Caggiano was already painting a street scene when I arrived. I decided to paint him painting. He said I did a great job on his figure. I was pleased he liked it.
Another thing suprising about Nantucket was how much warmer it is here. When I left Maine it was in the 50s. On Nantucket, it was easily 70 and humid. The people dress up here. I brought a few of my nicest shirts to fit in! It is suppose to rain all day. I am going to go down into the shop area of town. John said it is a good idea to paint in this area. People are shopping and might buy a painting. I have a box of really nice finished paintings, brouchures, post cards, and a stool to put it on! The shop will be open for sales!
The breakfast here at the Century house is great! The entire counter of the kitchen is covered with fruits, granola, yogurts, breads, cream cheese, and preserves, juices, coffee, and tea! I had a little of everything! There are amazing paintings everywhere done by other artists who were invited. I found myself munching on a english muffin loaded with creamcheese and blueberry preserves dazzled by the paintings! Paintings really do add a lot to a house. They are so enjoyable to look at! If I had a choice between watching the top movie of the Summer or looking at paintings, you know which one I would select!
The baby jogger will be carrying all of my painting gear and finished work in a box today! I would never be able to do this otherwise. I am going out to paint!

"Towards Sand Beach" 8x10 Sold today! This is one of my favorite paintings this year. It went to a very good home.
"Sears Island Spruce" 6x8 Sold today!
"Little Spruce Tree" 5x7 Sold today!
"Fog At Otter Cliff Point" Sold today!
"Early Autumn at Somesville Bridge" Sold!
"Down At Swim Beach" Sold Yesterday!
"Cadillac View of Blue Hill" Sold this morning!
 "Bubble Pond Bridge" Sold yesterday!
"Autumn At Cadillac Mountain" Sold today! Loved this painting!
 "Acadia Surf" Sold today!
"Plein Aire at Vinalhaven" Sold today!
 "Sunset Over Manana" Sold!
"Surry Cottage By the Sea" Sold! These are only a few paintings I sold. I am too tired to download more painting's photos. I like to see which paintings an artist sells. I am sure you would like to see them too.
I am pretty overwhelmed right now as you can imagine. All I can say is a miracle happened today at the Bar Harbor Art Show. For the last two days I sold, sold, sold! I had as many as 7 people were in my art show tent watching me show them very small oil paintings at one time. There always were people wanted to see more painting out of the box. I had 150 paintings with felt material in between each painting in two boxes. I would show them a painting, tell them where it was painted, with a story sometimes. I told anyone looking, if they liked a painting, to let me know. Sometime two different couples were holding many paintings they each wanted. We would then put it aside. They could line the paintings they liked up to decide which ones they liked. This worked great! Sometimes I had a new person come into the tent. They would ask me questions inquisitively. Instead of interrupting my sale with the first group of people, I would just hand the question person a brochure! I would also thank them for being interested enough to ask me questions. They were happy with the brochure. They would stand and read it. When I finished with all of the sales from the first group, I would be ready to start again with the brochure person. I was busy all day.
I added up all of the painting sales. There were 25 paintings sold. The average price was 200$. Most of these paintings were under 5x7. Very few were over 8x10. I only sold 1 11x14. Half of these sold paintings were nicely framed. The other half was unframed. Most of my customers were repeat buying art collectors. They were very happy to see me. I was very thrilled they wanted more of my paintings! Thank you for all of the painting sales.
Daisy and Duke will be receiving 25 days of "Frosty Paws" Dog Ice cream treats! I decided not to give them dog icecream for 25 days straight. On day 26 there might be some severe behaviorial issues develop. Especially from Daisy the naughty high spirited dog. Maybe Duke might get really ticked too. So every other day they will receive a ice cream treat! I am sure they will enjoy all of their ice cream. They are still enjoying an occasional raw hide bone too!
Have a great night! I am heading for Nantucket's Century House Hotel to be an artist in residence! I will be painting as many paintings as possible. John Caggiano is going with me to help carry my equipment and show me the painting sites. Then we are going to paint in Cape Cod and Vermont! I hope to bring my computer to produce my blog. I am praying for great weather! Get out and paint!

Here is "Patches". Her owner is a happy customer of mine. It was great to see her and her cute little dog. The dog was very dry with her cute little raincoat! She took "Patches" back to the house, then returned to purchase two paintings. Many past art collectors of mine arrived at the show excited to purchase new works. It is really fun to see the same collectors. They are so thrilled to see so many paintings. I always enjoy this part.
It seemed very busy at the art show. There was a large cruise ship with many tourist walking through the show. Bar Harbor is a great place for a show. Especially when it rains or looks foggy. Many people stay out of the water or woods. They come to Bar Harbor to shop!
I am very pleased with my new brochures. I think they were worth the price of a dollar a piece. Sometimes I had a lady trying to decide which painting to buy. I would be holding up a painting to a frame. Then I had a new interested customer asking me questions one after the next! So I would thank them for their interest, hand them a brochure, and tell them it contained all of their answers! They were so pleased. So was my customer. I would give her one too. Then I would finish with one while the other came back to buy too. I used this brochures many times today. It looks very professional.
I had ordered clear 24x24 bags with built in handles. But of course they were too large. So I was back to being creative with packaging. A few ladies had bags from clothing. I would comment, "Oh great! I love it when people bring their own packaging!" I guess I need smaller bags too.
My first customer was a Christian also. She said that God had really blessed me. She was very excited about my paintings. I love this part of my job. I love to see the happiness my paintings bring people. I love to share my art.
I am beyond exhausted! I took my Robert to eat Chinese food after the show. I stopped by Bass Harbor Campground to see the artists who are participating in Stapleton Kearns's workshop. There was a serious accident towards the end of the painting workshop. One artist, who is a well known and highly respected, fell on the rocks on Park Loop Road. She had to be taken by ambulance. I was hoping to meet her. I hope she will be ok. Plein aire painting can be very dangerous! Becareful, but get out and paint!

I took James, a plein aire painter from Massachusetts, around Mount Desert Island today. I showed him Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Rich's Wharf, and Cadillac Mountain. We almost painted on top of Cadillac Mountain. It was fogged in. But we both really liked this foggy scene with Spruce trees and red blueberrybushes. It was sprinkling and very cold. We decided to keep on looking for another place to paint. I showed him Sand Beach. He wanted to paint there! I carried all my equipment down long flights of stairs. I knew I probably should not be doing this. I set up to paint. Sand Beach is beautiful fogged in. The colors are great. We were painting! Then it started to sprinkle lightly. My palette was covered with water! I went back to get a red poncho and a plein aire umbrella. James said he was doing fine!
People were coming around. They had umbrellas and raincoats. It was really amazing how many people really were at Sand Beach in the rain! Ok, it was probably the first time they had ever seen anyone painting in the rain. I have painted in the rain at night once on Monhegan island.
I started to tell people at the beach, "This was his idea to paint in the rain!". People would laugh! They took our photos for us. Then the next group of tourist, James said, "She made me paint in the rain!" Then the next group of people, I said, "James made me paint in the rain. In fact he only paints in the rain!" People thought this was so amusing. James and I laughed too. Finally after three or four hours of painting in the rain, we packed up! It was really difficult painting like this.
I will post more photos of today soon. It takes so much time downloading photos for this blog. I literally spend over an hour each day to blog. I think it is worth it. Have a great night. Go paint!

Daisy and Duke were suprised to see their new ride! They didn't want to get inside at first. I had to tell Duke to jump inside. Daisy could get inside all by herself too! Plenty of room and comfortable for Daisy and Duke.
I got them inside. They looked around inside of the van. The rubber mat on the floor will be easy to clean. They can both lay down and sleep while I am painting if they'd like.
Duke sat up in the front seat. He liked looking out the windows. He looked like he was smiling! Daisy layed down in the back. They run all over Sear Island's beach. There was no sun or I would have painted.
Here are a few more photos of Mount Desert Island I took a few days ago. So many artist approved of these ocean scenes! I thought I would share some more. Feel free to paint any you might like! This one is of Sand Beach. The great head is at the end of Sand Beach.
This is at Sand Beach also looking towards Otters Point.
This is also on Park Loop Road. In the distance is Otters Point.
I hope to paint tomorrow! I hope it is a gorgeous day! Sunny and about 70 degrees. Let's hope! I am feeling better.
I have a collector coming to the Gallery tonight! It is nice to show my art work! Have a great night. Get out and paint!

Here are 9 of my paintings in the Skyline Farm show opening September 25. The Skyline Farm is in North Yarmouth, Maine. It is open on the weekends. There are pigs and chickens on the farm to see. There are also many antique horse carriages. It is a nice setting in the country. Kathi Peters and I drove to North Yarmouth early in the morning. We worked all day to hang the show. I went outside to take photos of their pigs. I had never seen a pig at a farm before. Here are a few photos!
At first they all came up to sort of greet me. They looked inquisitive. They then went back to rooting around in the grass and dirt. Then one squealed really loud as if he were dying! This, I admit, scared me greatly! There was only a small rope holding them in. They had weird eyes. They looked sort of dangerous and evil to me!
I am not sure if there is a painting here in these photos for me! I would be too afraid to paint them from life. Maybe if there were only one pig, that was sleeping, I might paint him. These guys were too active for me! They went into the mud. They were filthy. I guess they were just being pigs. I should be a little easy on them. Maybe I was just tired. There might have been a few I liked.
Here are a few of the horse carriages inside of their museum. It is a beautiful place for paintings. I hope they have a good turn out for their Harvest Dinner on September 25. A chef is cooking an amazing multi course dinner. People will have a chance to view the paintings first!
I took this photo yesterday in Acadia National Park. This location is on Park Loop Road towards the end of the road. Many artists paint here to avoid the tourists. I painted here with The Art Mentor and his friends for a week everyday. I found this scene most challenging. I never did produce a painting out of this view. I was working with a small copper panel. I think an artist needs at least 11x14 to paint this scene! It is a beautiful scene though. Someday I hope to conquer it! I will have van tomorrow. I could paint really big if I want to now! I might surprise you someday! Wait and see! I am going to get out and paint!

It is apple season here in Maine! Robert and I picked 14 pounds of golden delicious and red delicious apples today! I love being in an apple orchard. Happy sounds, beautiful smells, and great tasting apples!
They are so beautiful! I may come to the orchard to paint someday.
My birdfeeder has many happy customers now! These are tiny yellow looking birds. I wish I knew which type of bird they are? Maybe a blog reader might know?
This bird looks to be a small type of woodpecker. He is very hungry! I am going to really enjoy them! They jabber a lot from the trees when Daisy and Duke come out. A chickadee even came over to Daisy and chatted to her! Daisy was so suprised!
One of my business dreams for this year is to purchase a van. I do well at Art Shows. I hope to increase my shows this year. We rented a U Haul for two days. It cost 450$! We both have small Toyotas. So today we traded in our Toyota Prius which needed a new 3000$ battery, for a 2005 GMC 1 Ton Van! It only has 48,000 miles on the van. The new van will even pull our Airstreams! I should be able to paint from inside this van two back and side windows when it gets colder and windy! There are two front bucket seats. The rest of the van has a vinyl floor. Perfect for art shows. Daisy and Duke will ride in style now. We pick up the van on Wednesday! Our art show is on Saturday and Sunday. Good timing.
I think I will go paint more birch trees tomorrow. I just love those birch trees. Maybe you might go out to paint too?

Today Duke seemed to be trying to make me laugh. He laid on his back with his feet over his head. He just stared at me wagging his tail. Once in awhile he would move his front legs up and down. He was a clown today!
They seemed to know I have been tired lately. Usually I take them to Sears Island for a swim and run. They looked a little sad.
Their brand new toy didn't last very long! Luckily Robert with take them on a field trip tomorrow. I might go to Monhegan. Maybe.
When I met Robert in Florida I had just purchased this house in Oviedo, Florida. We lived here for a year after we were married. We purchased a new Airstream! Hooked it up to a van and moved to Maine. The rest is history! I found these photos today going through some papers. I thought you might like to see where we lived! It was a beautiful house. I like the house we have now maybe more!
This is the kitchen in the Oviedo, Florida house. There were 17 foot ceilings! This was a nice room.
I was thirty years old when this photo was taken. My little yorkie, Snookie, was at my feet! I remember she wasn't thrilled I was holding a kitten! Snookie loved me so much she wouldn't let me play even the piano without her sitting on my lap! When I played at a piano recital, it was strange not having her sit there!
This is my Dad and I rounding up Daisy and Duke's 11 puppies. We brought them over to my Dad and Mom's house. I was super busy at Stetson University taking Chemistry, Chemistry lab, Hematology, Immunology, Labs, and Senior Research Thesis! That was a crazy last semester! Daisy and Duke had their first litter of puppies practically on the first day of school. They were 9 weeks old here. Mom and Dad had a large screenroom. They were destroying my house! My Dad said one morning he looked out the kitchen window overlooking the screenroom. In the backyard he saw his banana tree moving vertically! He went out there to investigate! Three puppies had pulled it out of the ground and were moving it across the yard! He laughs still telling this story! We all still talk about the month they babysat 11 golden retriever puppies. They were each 20 pounds by the time they were given to their new owners.
I hope you are out painting! I sure hope to get out and paint too!

I decided to go to Monhegan this weekend. Robert can watch the dogs this way! Otherwise they would be at Robert's work for 10 hours a day! Long day for elderly dogs! It also gives me a few more days to rest up from my hospital stay. I was very weak today! I did sleep for 14 hours so I wasn't tired. I just watched tv and looked at new art magazines! Tomorrow I will feel strong I hope. Here are a few photos I took on Monhegan this last June. Seagulls nest on Whitehead during June on Monhegan.
 Here are two seagull eggs.
I bought Daisy and Duke each a lamb bone with bacon and cheese inside. They worked on this bone all day. Then when Robert came home I gave him a new dog toy to give them. They were so excited about this. I bent down on my knees to take their photo. They were in a tug of war with the new large grey elephant. I was taking their photo when they ran at me. Duke put his foot up, the camera went into my eye, and I fell backwards onto the ground. It took a few moments to regain sight in my eye. Large dogs can be dangerous! The photo revealed close up of hair.
Have a great night! I hope to get out and paint maybe tomorrow.

"Sweet Daphney" 5x7 Oil on Copper panel. Framed and Shipped for free. sold.
I need to retake this photo. I painted all day until late in the evening in my warm studio! It is cold here in Maine now! I saw this Corgi at Sand Beach on Mount Desert Island. I stood there looking at this Corgi. She looked so miserable on such a beautiful beach! She looked wet, tired, cold, dirty and miserable! She was ready to go home. I wanted to paint her. I asked the lady sitting next to her if I could paint her. She was laughing too because her dog was so cute. I did ask her what the Corgi's name was. She said, "Daphney!" What a pretty name. She did say when her ears are both up, the dog looked like an alien. I liked her with one ear up and the other ear down. I thought it looked like she was thinking and listening. I liked her eye focusing on me. I could tell she was not thrilled with my taking photos of her. What a cute little dog! I had fun painting her. I think I will work more on this painting tomorrow!
"The Comber" 5x7 Oil on Copper Panel. Framed and Shipped for free! sold!
I am always trying to get a photo of a comber breaking on a rock. For some reason this is the perfect ocean scene. I guess Waugh might have thought it better to down play this big comber. I did read somewhere in the Waugh book he said to not get too dramatic with these waves. I like it. I think it is facinating to see this huge wall of a wave. There are translucent areas. There are shadows of water stray. There are beautiful colors within this comber. I am pretty sure it is either a comber or a breaker. I may have to research this. I was painting for 10 hours today!
"Thirsty Girl" Sold tonight! Hallaelujah!
I sold a painting tonight! Daisy and Duke are happily celebrating with "Frosty Paws" dog icecream! I sold "Thirsty Girl" tonight online from a previous collector. I am mailing off two of her new paintings tomorrow. Robert framed them tonight! They look super! Thank you very much for your purchases! Daisy and Duke thank you too.
A few days ago I was eating an Italian Lemon Iced treat for humans. The white cup resemble the "Frosty Paws" white cup. Daisy and Duke stood there watching me in utter disbelief! Duke had the saddest eyes. Daisy was blowing air out of her mouth. The action looked like a human pouting. I had to put the treat back into the refrigerator because they were so hurt! Cruelty to animals. Daisy chewed up my nail file. She is ten years old. She has been chewing up my nail files for ten years! Nothing ever changes. In the hotel room, when we turned off the lights, we heard Daisy going through the trash can. She has done this also for ten years! We love them both though. They are fun!
If it is sunny out tomorrow, get out and paint! I sure will be painting outside! White birch trees are going to be my target!
Here is the information about a show my work will be at! This Museum is very beautiful!

The morning after I got out of the hospital, Robert, Daisy, Duke and I headed for Berwick, Maine. We stayed over night in Kenebunk, Maine. At 4:30 am we left to get ready for Robert's participation in a half ironman competition. I didn't sleep well. It is difficult to get comfortable. I have strange backpain. I am exhausted. I have lost weight from the jello and juice diet at the hospital. But I really wanted to see Robert do his thing! It was exciting. I thought I would share the triathlon happenings with you. The lake was in Spring Hill, Maine called Knights lake. 500 athletes eventually were swimming at one time in this lake. The race started at 7:00am.
Robert was putting on a very tight wetsuit. Almost all of the athletes wore a wetsuit. It helps keep the swimmer bouyant and warm. They all had to swim 1.2 miles.
I thought the winners of the triathlon would be the youngest in their 20s. I was wrong. The winners are usually between the ages of 35-45 for men and women 25-35. I also thought all participants would have athletic slender bodies. Some were rather stocky and robust looking! Not all were thin.
After the athletes swam 1.2 miles, they had to charge up a steep hill. Each athletes were timed for just running the hill for a separate contest. I had to sprint up this hill to take photos of Robert. It was quite a climb!
After the steep hill run, they each found their racing bike. They changed out of the wetsuits, put on black speedo looking shorts. They then had to bike 56 miles.
After the bike ride, they had to run 13 miles. Robert did really well! He finished in 5 hours and 22 minutes. He was pleased with his time. He finished a half an hour earlier than he usually does. I told him I was super proud of him! I have always admired Robert's athletic ability! This is a photo of Robert finishing. I am sad I couldn't take a better photo! Darn! I tried to zoom in too much. He was going fast!
Tomorrow I hope to do some painting. Thank you for all of the words of encouragment! I appreciate them. Thank you! Get out and paint!

I just got out of the hospital tonight. I went in to the emergency room yesterday because of intense chest pains, inability to breath, sweating. I thought I was having a heart attack. Luckily Robert came home in time to drive me! I was admitted right away. I was lucky because there were at least 50 other people waiting in the emergency room. I was having pains of 10! They put me in critical care right away. They did EKGs. They gave me nitro under the tongue. They took many viles of blood checking for special enzymes. The doctor was great keeping by my side. He told me he thought I was having a heart attack too. I could tell he was stressed out. Finally gave me something for pain. Then something else for pain as the first medicine wasn't enough. My vital signs were very high. I guess when you are in any type of pain your blood pressure rises. Robert was great through the whole experience. They decided to do a chest xray after the enzymes were coming back normal. They didn't think I was having a heart attack. They needed to find out why it was hard for me to breathe. They needed to rule out a blood clot in the lungs. They also decided to have me drink a quart of dye to do a Cat scan of my abdomen and pelvic region. When I arrived at the cat scan place I got really sick! I guess the quart of dye I drank didn't sit well. I hear this is a common thing. Sorry for being so graphic. I was very neat about it of course. Then I was put into a cardiac unit over night and the next day. My roommate in the cardiac care was nice. She had a terrible time with nurses bumping into her infected diabetic ulcer on her leg. She screamed a lot. She couldn't walk. There was a lot of accidents going on all day. I felt so badly for her. I was so pleased to go home. I was exhausted. My shocking diagnosis: A benign hematoma on my liver. It will heal by itself most likely. It was caused by an injury I do not remember. There also was a problem with my lungs. My lungs are not able to fully inflate. She said this could be causing me fatigue. She thought this might be the reason it is difficult for me to walk long distances or stand to paint. They gave me a small plastic machine to use to strengthen my lungs. All of my other blood work came out fine. I am in other wise perfect condition. After a few good nights sleep I hope to get out there and paint! Maybe I will be more careful of my liver! I just wanted to let you know. I didn't want you to wonder why I was missing in action!
Update: Cardiologist did many tests. I don't have congestive heart failure. I am fine!

"Fort Point State Park" 8x10 Oil on Copper. Sold!
Today I received a call from a art collector friend of mine. She wanted to buy a painting! My heart always beats a little faster when I hear these words! Oh I am so thankful to sell paintings right now! We are suppose to be having poor economy. I am lucky to find many buyers to appreciate my paintings. Daisy and Duke will be enjoying Frosty Paws ice cream treat for dogs tonight to celebrate! A few nights ago Daisy and Duke howled and barked for a ice cream treat. I had to tell them, "No painting sales today guys!" They seemed to understand. They did look unhappy. If I can learn to paint even better, Daisy and Duke could have ice cream each night!
This is a photo of Stapleton Kearns painting at Fort Point State Park. He has a workshop on Mount Desert Island coming up with one opening left! It is September 25, 26, and 27th. It is a great opportunity to learn from a patient knowledgeable teacher. I have never seen him loose his patience or yell at any student! The price is only 300$ for the workshop. Most of the workshop artists, there are nine of them, are camping at Bass Harbor Campground. The price for camping is usually
25$ a night. Stapleton is known for having a intensive workshop. After painting all day, dinning together for dinner, there will be art campfire talks. Besides getting to know some amazing fellow student artists, you will learn how to improve your own painting ability! It will be an incredibly fun event! I am stopping by to participate in the campfire art talks each night. I have a art show in Bar Harbor that same weekend or I would be participating in the workshop myself! If you are interested in Stapleton's workshop, you can see the information of his website. His email is stapletonkearns@gmail.com
I painted the painting I sold today a few months ago. Stapleton was painting with me that day. I remember when I finished painting "Fort Point State Park", he said, "If someone doesn't buy this painting, there is something wrong with America!" He particularly like the way I painted the birch trees. He said, "If you can handle the rest of the painting as you painted those birch trees you won't have any problem at all." I was using new flat brushes when I was painting that day. I remember thinking how much faster I could paint with those big flats! I am glad to find a new owner for this painting. Thank you very much!

"Brightest Light at Blue Hill Fair" 5x7 Oil on Copper panel. Framed and Shipped for free!
Today was great fun! Two painters stopped by my house to invited me painting with them at Blue Hill Fair. I had gone to Mount Desert Island to take photos of waves. There were no waves. So I came home earlier than usual. I headed to Blue Hill Fair when I heard the news. I loaded up the baby jogger with my painting equipment. I was strolling around the fair with the baby jogger. It was my second lap around the fair when I discovered the painters. They were off the path behind food venders. They had the perfect view to paint!
I have discovered professional painters don't like to have their photos or names mentioned. Both of their paintings were great! They were working very large. They both worked high key. We didn't talk much. It was very loud at the fair. Music, bells, and machinery made having a conversation difficult. One of the painters said she loved my painting. I appreciated her complements. I was pleased with them both.
I was working with a very limited palette. I used only Cobalt Blue, Quinacradone Red, Cadmium Yellow Light, and Zinc White. I think it made painting easier. I concentrated not on matching a color to the scene, but values.
"The Night Carousel" 5x7 Oil on Copper panel. Framed and Shipped for Free! The other painters left before dark. I parked my self under the light of the ice cream chart. I really had great fun! One of the painters warned me the crowd might get wierder after dark. This didn't seem to happen. The crowd was very respectful and enthusiastic!

I could have stayed there all night painting! I think I had a break through tonight. I had been at the fair each day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I didn't paint because I was too shy to paint at the fair. I think I realized I am good enough of a painter to not feel shy or embarrassed. This is what I like to do. I can't worry about what people might say. Besides, people are always positive about my painting on location. I really have not had a single person say anything bad about my painting. So I will be brave and paint where ever I feel like! You too!

"Cadillac Mountain View of Porcupine Islands" Sold today!
I sold a nice painting today! I painted this painting in the Spring, April 12. This was the first day Cadillac Mountain's road opened for tourists. I remember it was very cold 40's. The wind was severe. I painted this scene all day! So now I found a really good home for it.
Daisy and Duke came up to me while I was sitting on the back porch. Duke put his feet up on my chair's arms. Then he did a little howling noise. Daisy barked loudly with him. This is their latest trick at night for their new Frosty Paws icecream treat! They really love this new ritual. Thank you for buying a painting today!
September 15, 16, 17, and 18, I am going to Monhegan Island! I hope to paint in Catherdral Woods for two days. I would like to hike down under Whitehead to see the view where Frederick Waugh use to paint. He also stored his painting equipment in a fish shack I am sure is long gone. I would like hike to pulpit rock to paint. I might try to hike down the steep mountain for a water view of pulpit rock. I may even have Rusty drive me in the skiff to Manana Island to paint for a few hours! Exciting! Usually Cathedral Woods is full of mosquitoes. But the mosquitoes hopefully will be gone by then! I am not sure what size I will paint. I will bring a variety!
Tomorrow I hope to paint on Mount Desert Island somewhere! Get out and paint!

"Monhegan Island Nest" 5x7 Oil on Copper panel. Framed in gold wood. Shipped for free! 300$
It finally cooled off today! I went to the Blue Hill Fair to take photos. I came home and worked on this painting! These nest paintings are not easy. I think this one was successful. Each time I find a nest, it is exciting! Nests with eggs inside are enchanting at any age! I have seen a lot of nests on Monhegan Island towards Whitehead. Once I saw a tiny nest hidden in the grass with the tinest light green spotted eggs! So amazing! This nest is a seagull's nest. Their eggs are bronze colored with dark brown and bluegrey spots. They are special. I think very few people ever see a seagull's nest. This will look nice in a gold frame!
Here is a photo of the Blue Hill Fair with a nice moutain in the distance. I would love to come here at night to paint plein aire with my book light. I just don't want to paint by myself. I wish I had a plein aire buddy to paint with! Darn!
The alpaca on the left looked like he was ready to spit on me. Luckily this did not happen!
 Nice family of pigs!
He looked very happy sleeping! I wonder what he was dreaming about?
Tonight we are expecting the Hurricane Earl! Hopefully we will only get a bit of rain and wind! Tomorrow a customer is visiting the gallery to purchase a present! I sure hope the winds are not severe enough for him to drive! I am having a hurricane sale in the gallery tomorrow! I will be open all day! Come by if you are near by!

I found a very inexpensive Walter Foster book showing 60 color reproductions of Frederick Waugh's paintings for 7$ on ebay. Here are just a few of these photos. The book does not go into how Frederick Waugh painted these seascapes. It would be an excellent book as a reference for an artists working on seascapes. We are expecting Hurricane Earl here in Maine Friday night. There may be a few large waves finally!
Tomorrow should be cooler so I should be able to paint again! It was 94 degrees. I couldn't leave Daisy and Duke in the house without an AC. I took them to Sears Island. This time I put on a swimsuit, grabbed a towel, and my itouch! I read a book not about art! I had to keep an eye on Daisy and Duke roaming all around the beach. Duke was looking for frogs in the ocean all day again. Poor dog.
Daisy would run up to ladies on the beach. She would walk with them all the way down the beach. Then she would return to me. Boony, a dog with black and white spots, was there today. Daisy and Duke let him drink out of their water bowl. They were happy to see this dog. In the Winter we run into Boony taking his walk.
I really enjoyed just sitting at the beach for hours today. It was cooler! Maybe it is good to take a small break from painting to absorb things I have learned! Get out and paint! I hope too!

I used three oil paint colors, Cobalt Blue, Quinacrodone Red, Cadmium Yellow, and Zinc White to mix all of these colors. It is amazing how many different colors a person can get from just three! The three colors are on the left hand side. Then I mixed the yellow with the red to get orange. I mixed and mixed to get other variations. This is a good exercise to use before you go out plein aire painting with a new palette of colors. I am really suprised at the dark values I could achieve!
It was in the 90's here in Maine all day and night again! I closely watched my 10 year old golden retrievers. It was cooler 80s in the house until 1:30. I cleaned! The house was a bit of a disaster as I have spent most of my time painting lately! At 1:30 Daisy and Duke both came up to me with sad eyes and long faces. I took them to Sears Island for a swim! I put on a pair of shorter shorts and a tank top! I waded into the ocean. I just stood there for an hour. So did Duke. He was confused as to why there were no frogs at the ocean. At Craig's pond there has been many frogs for him to chase. Daisy put one of the frogs into a coma. A boy screamed he caught one, the coma frog! He brought it over to his mom to see. She said for him to get rid of that dead frog!
For the last week Daisy and Duke have been celebrating painting sales with their "Frosty Paws" dog icecream. You can buy this dog treat in the freezer section of the ice cream department in the grocrey store! There is no sugar in this ice cream. Daisy and Duke just love it! I hope it helps them through this terrible heat wave! Most Maine residents have no air conditioners in their houses. Schools are closing tomorrow! We are expecting a hurricane on top of this!
This is my new plastic red bird house. This is also the view to my backyard. The body of water is the penobscot east channel. The island in the distance is Verona. My new bird house has been us many days. No birds have been eating the sunflower seeds. Hopefully soon a few birds will discover my bird house!
Get out and paint!
