Monhegan Island Nest
Oil on Copper
5 x 7
$300.00 Sold
I was on Monhegan Island this June 2010. I hiked with my painting equipment up to Whitehead. There were seagulls nesting on the cliffs. I quietly walked around taking a few photos. I sat in an uncomfortable spot on a pointed rock and painted a nest with two eggs. Before I could finish, the seagull returned to the nest! She sat down on it. I painted a seagull on top of my eggs already painted. Luckily this egg painting experience is what I used to paint these eggs at home from a photo. How would I ever be able to do this from a photo without the plein aire experience. Lot of copper is showing. These nest paintings look enchanting. They will most certainly draw your guests to your house over to look closely and marvel at the painting! |
